I personally using a free antivirus software which is AVG Free Edition. It is absolutely free and available for download and update. The features is for the basic protection againts viruses and spyware where i found it very helpful to put my computer in the save situation. This product only available for single computer use for home and non commercial use. If you are looking a basic protection and free for your pc, why don't you try AVG
